The Trawlerman

Our Blue Mogganer Trawlerman pays homage to the historical fishermen, leading to the current Trawlermen of our locality who brave the North Sea's elements. Founded in 1593, Peterhead rose to prominence in the 18th and 19th centuries as Britain's premier fishing center, dispatching fleets to Arctic waters and transforming the town into a vital maritime powerhouse. Its harbours buzzed with the return of herring ships laden with bounty, weaving resilience into the fabric of local life up until the 1980's when Trawlers became dominant—a heritage that echoes in every stitch of this Blue Mogganer garment.

Crafted from chunky 4-ply Glenugie Nep yarn, The Trawlerman blends rustic charm with unexpected softness. This seam-free neo-rustic blend captures the raw, weather-beaten spirit of coastal yarns while delivering a plush, comforting hand that feels as inviting as a fireside yarn after a day at sea. Perfect for layering against the chill, it drapes with a subtle texture that nods to traditional ganseys, ensuring warmth without weight. Embrace our enduring connection to the waves—where the ages meet modern comfort in every wear.

100% Glenugie Nep Rustic Lambswool

Our Blue Mogganer Sweater range is inspired in fashioning/shaping, by the old and long established fishing communities of our locality in the North East of Scotland. Seam free, chunky and exquisitely soft in handle, they are true replicas of the traditional garments Scottish Mariners would have worn in the extremely harsh North Sea, in the early 1900’s. Our town of Peterhead was nicknamed The ‘Blue Toon’ and fishermen were locally branded as ‘Blue Mogganer's' in tribute to the (often Blue) Moggan's (thick knitted socks) they wore. Made locally by Harley of Scotland whose founder, Peter Harley, started out his business knitting some of those very Moggan's, the real deal.

Our knitwear can be dry cleaned, which is ultimately what we recommend.

If you prefer to wash at home, please hand wash only in cool to hand-warm water in a wool friendly detergent such as Woolite or Stergene (in the measurements specified on the bottle).

Dry flat and gently reshape whilst still damp.

Please note wool does not need to be washed as much, because it naturally resists odour, moisture and bacteria.

Remember…

- Never machine wash

- Never hand wash in hot water

- Never wash in biological or non-wool detergent
